Seniors: Mid-Year Check-In

Can you believe you are already halfway through senior year?

I am proud of the hard work and dedication you have put into this college application process, and I am excited to see where each of you attends school.

These are my five tips for managing this mid-year checkpoint:

Mid-Year Grades

Mid-year grades are available, and many colleges request these updates. Follow your school’s process for requesting mid-year grades. Some school districts make this process automatic, sending this report to every school applied. Other school districts require students to request these documents via their Naviance or Scoir accounts. Also, some colleges require mid-year updates in the SRAR or SSAR portal.

Deferrals

If you have received a deferral from a school, read the instructions from the school carefully. Some colleges have a specific form or want you to upload a response to a particular location. Other schools have deadlines to submit a LOCI. There are also colleges that do not want a LOCI sent. If a school does not indicate NOT to send a letter, send a LOCI. I can help you brainstorm and write LOCI.

Senioritis

Senioritis is real but can be cured. The first step is identifying your feelings. The next is to take action. Remember, if you need a break- take one! Mental health matters, and we must take time for ourselves. Connect with family and friends, plan a fun activity, or make it a point to have a lazy Sunday.

Current Coursework

Colleges can rescind an admissions offer, so now is not the time to completely slack off. If you are struggling with a class- ask for help or stay after with your teacher.

Enjoy this moment.

You are in the home stretch now! Enjoy all that senior year has to offer.
