Course Scheduling

Winter is the time for students to select courses for the upcoming school year. Students should anticipate meeting with their counselors to decide on course registration.

What can students do to prepare?

Research
Take some time to look at the course offerings from your schools, found on the school’s website under the curriculum guide. Read through the course descriptions to ensure an understanding of what each offers.

Create Balance
The rule of thumb is to take courses that challenge you but do not overwhelm you. Consider your strengths, weaknesses, and teacher recommendations.

Consider the Big Picture
When formulating your list of courses, consider what the schedule will look like as a whole. Although you may be recommended for all AP and Honors classes, is the course load manageable?

Elective Courses Matter
Do not forget to browse through the elective course offerings at your school. Take into account required electives that still need completion and also look towards those that interest you.

Alternative Electives Consideration
You will select alternative electives when building your schedule. Be sure to choose courses you would still be comfortable with if your first choice does not work.

Ask Questions
When unsure of a course description or a course level, ask! It is better to make informed decisions than hasty ones that can cost you a spot in a course that may be a good fit.
